Las meninas contemporáneas

This work reinterprets the majesty of Velázquez's Las Meninas, but with a contemporary and dreamlike twist. The central figures, girls with ethereal faces and sumptuous garments, evoke the solemnity and rigidity of the Spanish court of the Golden Age. The lighting dramatizes the details of the clothing and the golden ornaments, highlighting the duality between the human and the symbolic in the representation of power and nobility.

The influence of Velázquez is not only present in the triangular arrangement of the characters and the focus on the infantile royalty but also in the way the gaze of the figures seems to break the fourth wall. This feature, characteristic of Las Meninas, creates a sense of complicity between the viewer and the portraits, as if the observer were witnessing an intimate scene from the court. 

The opulence of the details, from the brocades to the lace, reinforces the idea of ​​an aristocracy where image is as important as lineage. But beyond visual luxury, the work also suggests a reflection on identity and the representation of power in art. The fusion between the classical and the modern results in a timeless image that invites us to rethink the legacy of Baroque painting in contemporary art.
